Frequently Asked Questions

With 200-plus years of combined experience, we have the answers you need to hear.

Why would I outsource my development?

Many franchisors ask us this question, and it’s often difficult to answer. Fact is, the main catalyst for outsourcing development tends to differ from brand to brand. Still, there's a long list of general reasons it makes total sense. This includes:

  • Direct Access to Deep Broker Relationships
  • Reduced Overhead Versus Employing A Team
  • Minimized Risk
  • Accelerated Growth
  • Infusion of Experience

More specifically, this means you don't need to navigate broker groups, which can be a very challenging undertaking for emerging brands. Your BrandONE development team knows how to engage with brokers and work with their clients. We've already done the heavy lifting for you, earning their trust so they will actually send you candidates. In fact, we've spent some 20 years independently building those relationships, and it shows in the caliber of leads we bring to the table.

At the same time, our B1 outsourced model immediately supercharges your franchise with experience. while helping cut down on overhead. After all, the cost of hiring a seasoned franchise development specialist can easily add up to a six-figure salary. Factor in expected commissions, benefits, along with travel expenses, and that's one expensive employee! With a franchise development company by your side, your brand can tap into the proven knowledge of an entire team. In the case of B1, that's more than 200-plus years of combined experience. At the same time, we only eat what we kill. This means we don't get paid unless we're adding franchisees to your system.

Lastly, outsourced development tends to lead to minimized risk and accelerated growth. Look, there are a lot of costly mistakes you can make when building a franchise. Some issues may be legal in nature, while others come as missed opportunities from a lack of tribal knowledge -- like how and where to launch a system. With an outsourced development group like B1, you head into the unknown with a crew that not only can light the way, but that's been there before. The end result? Accelerated Growth -- a development trajectory in which you control the big picture throttle instead of frantically handling every detail.

How much does it cost?

You may love the idea of working with BrandONE, but you also need to know what it’s going to cost. Count on us to always cut right to the chase! First and foremost, we don’t charge a retainer. BrandONE only gets paid when your franchise system is growing. Of course, the specific dollar amount depends on a lot of different factors. It's based on your growth goals, your internal marketing infrastructure, the operational aide needed to launch, and your timeline. Rest assured, BrandONE will review your total vision, discuss your unique circumstances with you, and ultimately develop a mutually-beneficial arrangement.

Where do you get your leads?

Candidates can come from a lot of different sources. For the most part, however, they fall inside of two large buckets: Organic leads and broker leads. Organic leads are those generated outside of broker efforts. This means they can come from your website, social media, or even someone walking into a brick-and-mortar location to inquire about franchising. Broker leads derive from a broker network, where we work with an individual to help them match an entrepreneur with the right franchise opportunity. Ultimately, a lot of different factors will steer your brand's lead generation strategy. Don't worry, the BrandONE team will formulate the perfect plan to power your current franchise development goals.

What does a “good” lead generation budget look like?

The amount earmarked for lead generation is widely dependent on your brand's goals. To accurately define this number, your BrandONE crew takes a deep dive into YOUR future vision, not ours. We explore where you've been as a concept, and where you'd like to go -- factoring in all of the possibilities along the way. Of course, the budget will be determined based on the networks we recommend entering, your own organic goals, and other factors pertinent to your growth. As a strong baseline, we generally tell brands to plan on a spend range of $50k to $100k for this part of the push.

What’s the difference between BrandONE and a broker?

BrandONE franchise developers, or specialists, work on behalf of the brand to lead candidates through a thoughtful and comprehensive education process that is called a Discovery Process. Our role in supporting candidates through the Discovery Process is process leadership. We are dedicated to ensuring that each and every candidate fully understands the brand, the business, and the investment opportunity. We are resident experts on the brands we work with and are here to provide all of the information needed for candidates to make a decision of whether the brand is the right fit. In contrast, franchise brokers, consultants and coaches work with individual candidates on a personal level to help them determine whether franchising is the right opportunity for them. They then assess their individual goals and objectives as well as the business models and investment types that are the right fit for them. Once they have identified these, they show the candidate a select range of brands at a high level that meet these qualifications and connect them to us at BrandONE if our brand matches those criteria. With certain brands, BrandONE uses our strong track record in direct-candidate digital lead generation as a key strategy. In these cases, the BrandONE team is fully prepared and experienced in doing candidate qualification and development that is normally provided through a broker service.

What goes into a sophisticated franchise development process?

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to building and empowering a franchise for long-term success. Every brand runs on a slightly different fuel. For franchisors, this means aligning with a team that not only understands how to internally strengthen the operation, but also knows how to present its unique story to the world.

For candidates, it comes down to finding the right guide -- a crew that can walk them through the business model up close, explain the intricacies of the concept, and dive deep into its track record.

Everyone involved -- the franchisor as well as the prospective franchisee -- must thoroughly understand the other side's past and feel confident about their future. They must align in vision and expectations. Achieving this harmony assures the brand's smart growth, and it's the driving force behind everything we do at B1.

So what's our approach? It begins with authenticity. Our franchise development process focuses on educating a candidate, not selling them. To do this, we map out, develop and present a set of educational collateral pieces that best tell your brand's story. In this phase of the process, we might dive into Marketing, Technology, Unit Economics, etc. There may be an educational review of the FDD, Territory, Operational and Equipment overview.

But the journey doesn’t end there. Once the decision to move forward with a candidate gets the greenlight, B1 implements an equally comprehensive process to finalize the prospect's entry into the franchise. This entails a lot of moving parts, which if not properly organized, can feel very overwhelming to candidates.

So, B1 determines the cadence in navigating these final critical steps. With some 200+ years of collective franchise development experience, our team dials in on several areas in this next phase. First, we instinctively know how to gauge a candidate's psychology on what is likely the biggest decision of their professional life. B1 steers them through every consideration... and emotion.

At the same time, we help the brand prep their new franchise family member for a stellar launch By enlightening the candidate on rollout procedures, operational musts, and keeping communication channels aligned, our crew truly plays the role of ground control.

What is an FDD, and how does BrandONE size it up?

The term FDD is shorthand for Franchise Disclosure Document. This legally-binding article is presented to prospective buyers of franchises in the pre-sale disclosure process. As far as BrandONE's concerned, we take a deep look at several critical aspects of this document. First and foremost, we'll dive into your franchise's item 19, which acts as a financial performance representation for potential candidates. If you don’t yet have an item 19 in your FDD, BrandONE -- along with your attorney -- can help you build one. It will be based on the data you provide us during our discovery process. In addition to the item 19, we also conduct a careful review of the item 3 and item 7. In the end, we want to make sure that BrandONE's core mission and vision align with your franchise, along with the opportunity it provides to those in its system.

Can you help me franchise my business?

Long story short, B1 certainly can point you to the right place. If you feel you have an amazing concept with franchising potential, the next step is to ensure you have all of the critical pieces in place. There are organizations (franchise incubation companies) that help facilitate these Franchising Musts. They will assist you with creating operational manuals, SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and other important elements. At the same time, their networks generally include proper attorneys, with experience drafting Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDD) and executing other legal requirements. B1 certainly can introduce you to an incubation company, but please understand, we are not one ourselves. We focus on franchise growth and development. We only partner with franchises, once an incubation company has properly set up their infrastructure for success.

What exactly is franchise development?

In simple terms, it's the work of growing a franchise system by the numbers. This includes adding units, territories or locations. For BrandONE, however, franchise development is not merely a rush to expand footprint. We take a deeper dive, with a focus on educating -- not selling -- individuals who might be interested in business ownership for themselves. We believe a thorough approach not only helps candidates size up the opportunity, but also positions the brand for long-term success with franchisees that "Get It"! That's why BrandONE takes the time to carefully craft the development process, assuring prospects receive the information and tools they need to make the best decision for themselves... and the franchise.

What type of growth can I expect?

This is a common question, and likely one of the most difficult to answer without knowing specific details. Frankly, growth depends on a lot of factors -- the most important being your franchise system's CAPABILITY to scale up. Of course, we have the tools and team needed to build out your brand's footprint at warp speed. Still, that does not necessarily mean your franchise has the infrastructure to handle such rapid change. Remember, with new franchisees comes new operational duties! We'll work with you to identify the best pace, based on your individual circumstances.

Another factor that drives growth is territory. In other words, we'll want to know where you'd like to expand and how your territory specifications are currently set up. The BrandONE team will guide you on this leg of the journey, leveraging our 200-plus years of combined franchise experience to conduct an assessment of how to best organize your territories. Ultimately, this is still your call. From our findings and your decision, we can determine what realistic growth opportunities await.

What does onboarding look like?

The experts at BrandONE have been on the franchise development scene for a LONG TIME! As a result, we've earned the ability to only work with individuals we like, trust and respect. While we're passionate about helping entrepreneurs reach their dreams, it's crucial that we first identify if their brand vision is the "Right Fit" for us. For this reason, we've created a hefty onboarding process that ensures we only partner with people -- and franchise concepts -- that we feel match our culture.
